I had never heard of Marcus Garvey before seeing this documentary. Why do you think someone who inspired so many people in his day is largely forgotten today?

This is a great question because it reflects the limitations of "history" in general and the media in particular. History is the story the winners tell and with the increasing concentration of media and publishing, the winners not only get to tell their story but they limit access to others who have a different version. you might also want to check out Stanley Nelson's documentary on the black press, "Soldiers Without Swords." It tells about the demise of the black press which would have been a vehicle for telling these stories and at least providing a record for future historians.
